　最近「道の駅」というのをよくみかけます。新鮮な野菜やlocal specialties（特産品）などがあって人気があります。私は道の駅を直訳して road station といっていますが、このstation は「駅」とは限りません。いくつかの例を紹介しましょう。

　バスの発着所は bus station、消防署と警察署はそれぞれ police station、fire station、ガソリンの給油所は gas station、テレビとラジオの局は TV station、radio station、また発電所は power station といいます。鉄道の駅は train station または railway or railroad station、地下鉄の駅は subway station です。
でもバス停は bus station ではなく bus stop です。鉄道の駅でも停車駅という意味では stop と言うことがありますから、次の駅とい言うときには状況に応じては next stop と表現をします。
